RSS Feeds in Digital Gardens

initial considerations, no feedback from anyone else with a long-term view on feeds or digital gardens

I have implemented an rss feed on this website (notes.aquiles.me/feed.rss) as a way of keeping track of the latest changes in the garden. My original idea was to use the feed as a way of triggering webmentions. In this way, I can have a fully static website and could use a third party service for more complex behavior.

So far, I haven't found a solution (haven't searched) that does what I was having in mind.

I still believe RSS feeds can be a useful way of linking gardens together. For example, if I link to a third-person note, I could monitor changes to that specific note, effectively allowing for a 2-way link (if a note changes, I would know I should check whether the link is still relevant, etc.)

One of the problems of transclusion (especially inter-domain transclusions), is how to handle changes to content that are not within our control. RSS is the simples way of decentralizing and distributing content. Specifically, what I have in mind, is something similar to how git lists changes, served via RSS on specific endpoints.

For a digital garden, however, I couldn't find examples of people actively engaging in this type of discussion. The same for comments on digital gardens. I am still trying to find like-minded people (Not all developers are computer savvy) that understand how the internet works and what options are available for knowledge creation across different gardens.

This note you are reading is part of my digital garden. Follow the links to learn more, and remember that these notes evolve over time. After all, this website is not a blog.
